Hey, just wanted to point out that you don't need to apologize for anything. I'm South Asian and I myself have been accused of whitewashing Katara, when I'm fully aware of the whole whitewashing situation and am affected by it myself. It's not right for anyone to assume that any artist does it on purpose. It's best to ask first, or to point out politely that maybe Katara's skin tone is a bit light. Unfortunately, instead, people target the "whiter" images and get pissed off without asking first.
(cont) Oh, and EVERYONE should respect that artists put TIME and EFFORT into their work. It’s not EASY. If they can do it BETTER, then THEY SHOULD. “The OP really needs to use their color palette better” is a comment I’ve gotten, and how freakishly rude is that? Fine, YOU draw it better then. I didn’t spend hours of my time on it or anything. You can’t accuse artists of being racist and whitewashing without knowing how they went about making the piece, and then expect them to apologize. So rude.
I know I shouldn’t apologize, but it seems that nobody cares about whatever I say in defense of that whitewashing matter. It was better that I didn’t bring this up at all, but I’m sick and tired of this. Nobody deserves to be treated like that.
I’m seriously considering not drawing Zutara anymore. I began to see both the pros and cons of this fandom, and sadly I don’t feel that I should keep on contributing my art to a fandom that doesn’t appreciate it or accuses me of stuff I didn’t do.
